WH Smith's Idea of Access
We have examined the disabled access at WH Smith at length, taking measurements and taking photographs. The 3 diagrams below show some of the popular models of mobility scooter which do not fit in the lift of WH Smith on Gallowtree Gate. On the left are images of a disabled member of the Post Office Users' Group trying (and failing!) to get her scooter into the lift. Even if Post Office users are able to get down to the basement in the lift or on the escalator, there is no up escalator to return them to street level, and there are no facilities to evacuate wheelchair users in an emergency.
